    JORGENSEN

    Biological Anthropologist, Population Geneticist

My work explores how human genetic adaptations to diet and the environment are linked with modern health outcomes across worldwide populations.

    Assistant Professor, University of Kansas

Currently accepting graduate students interested in 1) modern human population genetics and / or microbiome research, especially in diet or metabolic disease, or 2) using multispecies genetics or environmental DNA to understand the ancient past (not ancient human DNA)

RESEARCH PROGRAM

How did humans evolve in response to their environments, and how do human-environmental interactions affect genetic variation in human populations?

Humans have adapted to some of the most challenging environments on earth. These adaptations have resulted in unique population variation.

Understanding unique population variation can paint a picture for how the past, present, and future are intertwined-

—and contribute to medically relevant research by identifying novel genetic variation.

Methods Approach

I work to bridge genotype-phenotype associations through a multidisciplinary approach, encompassing genomic, physiological, and anthropological methods.
